Omega 7 Cardiovascular Health Benefits

Everybody is aware of the vast health benefits documented from Omega 3 fatty acids. This is especially true for the cardiovascular system.  However, not everyone is aware how beneficial Omega 7 Palmitoleic Fatty Acids are! Omega 7′s have crash landed into the natural omega scene and are stirring things up!

Omega-7 Helps Lower Cholesterol

Palmitoleic acid is gaining attention for their potential to reduce risk factors for heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and other obesity-related diseases. As an unsaturated fat found primarily in plant oils, nuts, and seeds, Omega 7 is considered heart healthy and has favorable effects on cholesterol levels. Omega 7′s major benefit is the fact that it decreases inflammation. Inflammation is a leading contributor and risk factor for cardiovascular disease and aging of the arteries. Omega 7 can help smooth the passage in arteries which helps them stay health and strong. It has been shown to reduce elevations in C-reactive protein (CRP), which is an indicator of inflammation and sticky artery walls. This helps keep cholesterol and fats in the blood moving through without resistance so they don’t stick and become plaque build up. **

In 2011, Japanese researchers gave palmitoleic acid to rats. The published study showed reduced cholesterol, triglycerides, insulin resistance, and even triggered weight loss. It also made the rat’s livers healthier and reduced whole-body inflammation.

Omega-7 Standing Out in Research for Cardiovascular Health Indicators

Omega 7′s are being highlighted in emerging research for their potential health benefits to cardiovascular health. Specifically, their potential to support healthy blood lipids and cardiovascular health triggers. In animal studies, palmitoleic acid is suggesting promise to support cardiovascular health and insulin function.A cross-sectional study showed a positive association between circulating palmitoleate (palmitoleic acid) and insulin and blood lipid metabolism.2 A recent, 30-day open label pilot study with 16 patients who were on a lifestyle program and supplemented with purified omega-7s for 30 days demonstrated support for healthy blood lipids, including triglycerides.*3

Omega 7 has much promise towards improving cardiovascular health and reducing triggers for cardiovascular disease. Research so far is very promising and their are studies being conducted at this time that may further support the notion.
